Regional Director of Planned Giving and Major Gifts

 

Position Description:

The American Lung Association of the Southwest is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the Regional Director of Planned Giving and Major Gifts.  This position will be full-time exempt and will be responsible for raising funds through planned gifts (wills, bequests, charitable gift annuities) and major gifts.  The position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive planned giving and major gifts program throughout the five-state region.  This includes identifying and cultivating individual donor prospects related to both major and planned giving, and increasing the membership in the association's giving society.  Work is carried out through verbal and written assignments, and is directed toward goals based on performance targets outlined in the written performance based management system.  Approximately 50% of the time this person will be traveling throughout the five-state region, although the base of operations will be either Phoenix, AZ; Denver, CO; or Las Vegas, NV. 

 

The Regional Director of Major and Planned Giving will play a key role on the local and regional Development teams throughout the southwest.  They will work closely with the President and CEO, and the seven local Executive Directors, as well as all program and advocacy staff.  The Regional Director of Major and Planned Gifts will also develop a close working relationship with all volunteer leadership in the region, and the national planned giving and major gifts office of the American Lung Association.  Successful development of new income sources and attainment of mutually agreed upon financial and donor relationship goals are the basis for an annual performance evaluation.

 

Position Requirements:
Candidates for this position must have a bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university; at least five years of successful non-profit fundraising experience, including major gifts and planned giving, or related financial and estate planning experience.  They must have strong organizational leadership skills; experience in voluntary or community activities; excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to travel regularly throughout the give-state area; and demonstrated skills in the use of computers and software used by the association.  Bi-lingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.  In keeping with the association's mission, the candidate must be a non-smoker.
